What is the most effective weight loss diet, for someone who is very overweight?

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Is following a diet plan better, than just trying to lower your calories yourself? (if you feel following a diet plan is the best, could you say which one please)

Also, is it better to more look at the fat in what your eating, than the calories?.

Thanks for any sensible answers.

xx

low carb diets are best. the key is to watch how foods affect your blood sugar, namely insulin. if you eat foods such as rice, bread, potatoes etc, they are broken down into simple sugars (glucose) and flow into your bloodstream. when your blood sugar rises above normal levels insulin is released to lower the amount in the blood. the only way to do this is to store the sugar in muscles or the liver. when these stores are full, it gets stored as fat. (this means jacket potatoes, rice and especially fruit, can increase body fat!)

the trick is to eat slow burning high fibre carbs such as oatmeal, wheatabix etc as this doesnt have as much of an effect on insulin.

high protein meals keep insulin low and arent converted to fat as easily but still keep you full so eat as much chicken, fish, steak and eggs as you want.

if you must eat pasta or potatoes etc, a good tip is to eat fibrous vegetables with it such as brocolli or green beans as the high fibre content slows down then digestion of the carbohydrates and helps them enter the blood stream more slowly which means the insulin release is much lower helping to prevent fat storage.

on the flip side, if blood sugar is below normal, glucagon is released (the oposite to insulin) and this breaks down fat for the body to use as energy, this is what you want.

bottom line, low carb diets are best, easier to follow long term as crash diets never work. keep meals high protein, lots of veg, go easy on fruit and drink lots of water.

also make sure you exercise on a daily basis, even if its just a long brisk walk. the best time is first thing in the morning before eating as you havent eaten while your asleep so your blood sugar is already low and your body will burn fat for energy.

one last thing to answer your question, its important to look at the fat content of the foods you eat obviously BUT the important thing to look at is the simple carbohydrate content. as i was saying earlier, its the effect on insulin that matters rather than calories.

for example, a bottle of lucozade has zero fat but is simple sugars. if you drank this regularly, you’d put alot of weight on as it goes straight to the blood.

hope this helps

Is trident sugar free gum bad for a diet/weight loss?

Friday, May 21st, 2010

I’m keeping myself on a diet from no lower than 110 pounds and no higher than 120 *as for my weight and height right now*. I chew trident sugar free gum every day and exercise every day. Some days ill do more exercise than others. Is trident gum *sugar free* bad for your weight loss, diet, health, teeth?

No. I hope your planned weight is healthy for your height, you didn’t share how tall you are! If it is, it sounds like you are on the right track, although you want to make sure you are alternating the type of exercise you do-don’t work the same groups of muscles every day, they’ll burn out and you’ll hurt yourself.

But Trident Sugar Free gum is not bad for weight loss. It’s actually ADA approved-most of it, you need to check each package though! It is "good" for your teeth, in that chewing gum acts sort of like brushing (NOT a replacement!) if you chew it after eating. Each stick of gum is less than 5 calories, and honestly you do not need to worry about the calories that come from sugar free gum. However, many different types of sugar free gum and candy (including Trident) include a chemical called Xylitol that they use as a sugar substitute, and this can sometimes cause diarrhea, though not often. You should be fine chewing it!

what should a weight loss diet consist of exactly?

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

i am 17 years old and weigh 65 kgs im abit chubby and i do exercise pretty much everyday and im looking to lose some weight to participate in kickboxing comps. So what should my diet consist of? and how long should my runs be going for and at what intensity?

OK READ ME. I see the same people just posting the same sentence and link. Ill tell you right here and up front

this is especially great for athletes

Did you know a plant based diet improves muscle retention and function?

I will dispell the protein myth right now. There are plenty of full spectrum protein sources that are plant based. Animal proteins are uneccesary and cause your body to become acidic.

A raw vegan diet is the perfect diet for maintaining ideal weight, never compromising muscle mass, and providing you a complete array of energy for any athletic activity.

First let me cover what you posted about your excercises. Im glad you run im glad your getting into kickboxing. I run as well but what you should know about running is that its much harder on your joints than simply walking. Walking is an incredible excercise because it doesnt stress your body to the max.

to the diet…

I would reccomend in the morning a green smoothie or somehting of the sorts. Get some frozen berries. strawberries blackberries, blueberries store them in the freezer. Stock up on bananas, and find yourself a plant based protein powder. Vega is the best but probabbly quite pricy for someone your age unless you have someone supporting you well financialy. Its about 50 bucks for a months supply so it may be a little much.

You can find a raw source of brown rice protein just search sunwarrior on google. they make a good protein additive, your local helath food store should have 1 of 3 things Hemp protein, (no it wont get you high and yes people have been eating it for thousands of years) brown rice protein, and pea protein. Mostly it wont deteriorate the taste of your morning smoothies. and throw in about a tablespoon of raw coconut oil.

This will solve the dillemma of breakfast and it can be done in about a third of the time. youll be up and out the door faster than ever. The nutrition will keep you full well into lunch time.

drink purified water throughout the day.

snack on fruits like grapes, cherries, apricots, peaches, be creative theres alot out there.

lunch should consist of a plant based salad. Chop up some cucumbers, lettuce spinach or whatever greens you like, add some onions carrots or any other vegetables. Make a dressing with garlic, flax oil cold pressed olive oil and whatever spices you like. chop your vegetables finely.

To give it substance chop up some RAW almonds and or sunflower seeds mix them with spices or just toss them into your salad for substance

make sure the seeds and nuts you buy are RAW. INGREDIENTS MUST SAY RAW!
why? cooking or roasting anything destroys the enzymes. This si the secret to obtaining incredible health energy and vitality!

for dinner be creative, there are tons of raw recipes out there,
there are some and will be more available at http://www.natural-green-guide.com

and you can read more about the raw vegan diet at http://www.natural-green-guide.com/raw-food-diet.html

by the way the creator of vega – my raw food morning smoothie burst… is a raw vegan triathlete. Yep a vegan triathlete. a plant based diet will throw you YEARS ahead of your curb.

Boxes wont be the only thing you kick if you fuel yourself in such a positive way my friend!

Enjoy and learn as much as you can! no matter how little the people around you care for thier health YOU DONT HAVE TO END UP LIKE THEM!
MAKE A COMMITMENT!

Where can I buy Medical Weight Loss (mi based diet program) nutrients or similar online?

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

I am following the Medical weight loss diet. It is a Michigan based diet program. We are supposed to use 3 nutrients per day. Is there any where I can buy these online, the MWL brand or similar. Someone once gave me a website address for products similar but I lost it.
I appreciate the responses, but I’m not looking for other diet plans. I’m looking for where to buy the nutrients. Thank you.

Does anyone know of a forsure weight loss diet or exercises?

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

I had a baby about 6 months ago, and I can finally diet and exercise. I have about 15 extra pounds of nasty fatness sitting on my stomach and thighs right now and want to lose at least 5 of it by the 26th of this month. So if anyone knows of any diet or certain exercises that will work quickly, it’d be a HUGE help. Thanks.

This works like a charm! I lost 10 pounds in 3 days. I know you probably won’t think its true, but its actually a quite healthy diet! Your not straving yourself, and you eat pleanty of good veggies! Here it is :D !

1st Day:

BREAKFAST:
Black Coffee or Tea
½ Grapefruit
1 slice of toast
2 tablespoons of peanut butter

LUNCH:
½ cup of Tuna
1 slice of toast

DINNER:
2 slices of any mean (about 3 oz.) – I ate two hot dogs.
1 Cup of String Beans
1 Cup of Beets
1 Small Apple
1 Cup of Vanilla Ice Cream

2nd Day:

BREAKFAST:
1 Egg
½ of a Banana
1 Slice of Toast
Black Coffee or Tea

LUNCH:
1 Cup of Tuna or Cottage Cheese
5 Saltine Crackers

DINNER:
2 slices of meat
2 Cups of Broccoli
½ Cup of Carrots
½ of a Banana
½ Cup of Vanilla Ice Cream

3rd Day:

BREAKFAST:
3 Saltine Crackers
1 Slice of Cheddar Cheese
1 Small Apple
Black Coffee or Tea

LUNCH:
1 Hard-Boiled Egg
1 Slice of Toast

DINNER:
1 Cup of Tuna or Cottage Cheese
1 Cup of Beets
1 Cup of Cauliflower
½ Cup of Cantaloupe
½ Cup of Vanilla Ice Cream

DIRECTIONS:

When you are on this diet, you may not use any other seasonings EXCEPT for Salt and Pepper. Also, you may drink either Water or Diet Soda or Tea with artificial sweetener. However, make sure that you drink at least 9 glasses of water per day in order to aid the flushing process that your body will be going through. Also, DO NOT SNACK throughout the day. Also, you may substitute Tune for Cottage Cheese or vice versa.

When you do this diet, you will be "on-diet" for the three days, and then you will take three days off, and then repeat the process until all your excess body fat has disappeared. MAKE SURE you take those three days off! When you are off of the diet, than you are able to eat anything that you want, however, eat moderately. Also, when you are dieting for the three days, keep your exercise routine to a minimum, due to the fact that your energy level will be lower than normal for the first two days.

As with all diets and weight loss routines, you are going to need to listen to your body. If you are feeling overly weak, or lightheaded, eat something. Everybody is different, so please, be careful with yourself. Below is a grocery list for you to print off:

GROCERY LIST:

Coffee
Tea – cold or hot
Artificial Sweetener – HIGHLY recommend All Natural Splenda.
Grapefruit
Bread – Whole Wheat
Peanut Butter
Tuna
Cottage Cheese
Hot Dogs – or any lean meat

Beets
Apples
Vanilla Ice Cream – DOES NOT have to be light.
Banana’s

What’s a successful weight-loss diet for a vegetarian?

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

I would LOVE to lose some weight. Right now I weigh about 137 pounds, but I really want to lose 20 by Christmas. I don’t eat meat, but are there any good meat-less diets out there that will help me achieve this goal?

Hey im a vegetarian too! Ive been like this for like nearly a month now, i used to get really bloated after i ate meat so i gave it up and ive never felt better than i do now!

I wouldnt suggest like a diet, just keep a balance of Veges and fresh fruit. Yoghurt helps with digestion and also i only eat bread once a week since there are LOTS of carbs in them. (cause bloating for me)
I cut out yeast made things too like vegemite, marmite, bread, etc.

Drink PLENTY of water because that will help with hunger pangs coz your body is not always hungry!

Be creative with like seafood salads! Fruit salads (fruit mixed with lettuce – very delicious!)

I still eat fish and chicken actually so im happy with just that:)
I think salads are very filling personally, crackers are good too!
Mixed nuts and dried fruit are a nice snack too! :)

hope that helped! – if u want more help just ask :)
