<p>Most supplements come from two basic standpoints: they either speed up your metabolism (which coffee does just as well) or they are diuretics (which softens the stool, and make you poo more&#8230; which means less time to absorb calories and nutrients from food &#8211; you could buy exlax and it would do the same thing).</p>
<p>I have used and enjoy a high protein and low carb and low fat diet. I still get to eat the meats that I enjoy (most of them are very lean meats). Carbs are something that humans only relatively recently added to our diets, and now Americans tend to overdose on them. </p>
<p>Eating a high protein diet will provide you with energy, and the basic building blocks with which to continue building muscle in the gym&#8230; however, you will lose weight because it takes work for you body to convert protein into an energy source. </p>
<p>I eat six times a day (about every 2 hours). I learned this from an Olympic coach I worked with at Penn State. Those are not full meals mind you, but about fist size servings of protein and fruits and veggies &#8211; enough to provide a continual source of protein and energy (so you don&#8217;t experience the doldrums that low blood sugar causes that is another factor in overeating). </p>
<p>I would highly recommend you speak to someone unbiased and knowledgeable before you consider buying any OTC supplements.</p>
